Round 5 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB took us to the fast and flowing Silverstone National circuit, where a weekend of consistency and bold calls delivered three podium finishes and reignited the championship fight.
Qualifying
Confidence was high after leading the way in Friday practice, but Saturday morning’s qualifying showed just how fine the margins are at Silverstone. On such a short lap, with a 27-car grid, traffic proved costly when the tyres were at their peak. Despite this, Jacob secured P4 on the grid, just 0.061 seconds away from pole — close, but not quite the position he wanted at a track where overtaking is never easy.
Race 1
Rain showers just before the start created tricky conditions for the opening race. While most of the field switched to wet tyres, Jacob and the team made the bold call to stick with slicks, banking on the high winds to dry the track. The early laps were tough, dropping from 4th to 14th as grip was at a premium. But as the slicks came alive, and after a short red flag period, the pace was electric. Jacob carved back through the field to win the PRO class (and second overall), finishing over 20 seconds ahead of his nearest rival and taking a crucial points haul.
Race 2
Sunday morning’s contest promised more progress after a lightning start saw Jacob climb from P4 to P2 on the opening lap. Unfortunately, the race was cut short by a red flag on lap 3. With the result declared early, he was classified in second place, though it felt like a missed chance to fight for victory.
Race 3
Starting from P2 for the weekend’s final race, Jacob launched well and pressured the leader from the outset. A Safety Car bunched the field mid-race, but despite pushing hard after the restart, the leader defended strongly and Jacob had to settle for another second place finish — his third podium of the weekend.
Driver’s words
“Before Race 1 we took a gamble on slicks in damp conditions, and it paid off. It was a big risk, but the team and I believed it was the right call, and it made the difference. I felt we had the pace to win both Sunday races too, but Race 2 was cut short and in Race 3 Sam [Harvey] defended well. Still, this weekend was a great step forward and the points put us right back into the fight for the championship.”
Jacob leaves Silverstone second in the standings on 99 points, just nine behind leader Tom Bradshaw. With the finale at Brands Hatch still to come, the title battle remains alive — an outside shot, but one we’ll be pushing for with everything we have.
